
Roger Stern, Ph.D.
Roger has worked in the medical device field for over 20
years, and is currently the President and CEO of Stellartech Research
Corporation, a contract medical device development and manufacturing company
located in Sunnyvale, California.
From the very beginning of his career, Roger has been involved
with medical devices, entrepreneurs and start-up companies. While in college,
Roger worked with Instruments for Cardiac Research, Inc., a company founded
by an entrepreneurial professor to develop and manufacture Holter recorders
and EKG analysis tools.
Roger earned a BSEE degree at Syracuse University and went
on to attend graduate school at Stanford University, receiving both a
Masters and Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, with emphasis on medical
imaging. During his graduate studies, Roger held a position at the Palo
Alto Medical Research Foundation, researching innovative cardiovascular
applications for ultrasound. He also spent significant time in the Radiology
Department of Stanford University Medical Center, working with physicians
and patients to collect imaging data required for his Ph.D. thesis.
Roger is recognized as an expert in the application of
radiofrequency, ultrasound and other directed energy sources for therapeutic
applications, including ablation and electrosurgery. Over the past 18
years, he has developed key technology for more than twenty medical device
start-up companies, in areas including gastroenterology, interventional
cardiology and electrophysiology, cardiovascular surgery, gynecology,
urology, dermatology, arthroscopy, and general surgery. Roger is named
as the inventor on more than 37 U.S. patents, with over 15 patents pending.
Roger currently serves as President and CEO of Stellartech
Research Corporation. He founded the company in 1988 to develop innovative
electronic devices for start-up companies in the medical industry. Stellartech
has grown steadily over the years, and has built a strong reputation based
on its expertise in the development and manufacture of complex energy
delivery systems and other sophisticated medical equipment. Today, Stellartechís
services also include the design and manufacture of disposable devices.
The company currently employs over 140 people in its state-of-the-art
facilities.
Utilizing Stellartech's virtual company model, Roger has co-founded and incubated a number of successful
companies. In 2004, Roger was named one of Medical Device and Diagnostic Industry's 100 Notable People.
